Using SIPs to help get to zero energy use and reduced labor. Use of local materials such as trees removed from the site milled for siding. Rainwater catchment for irrigation. All Water Wise fixtures and energy efficient lighting. Passive solar design.
Building use:
LCLT builds affordable homeownership housing for working islanders. The homes are constructed as net zero energy to reduce overall operating costs, high quality materials that are long lasting and sustainable and low maintenance features.
SIP benefits for this job:
This was the first time we used SIP construction in our 32 year history. LCLT is our own contractor. Homeowners help build the homes along with skilled carpenters. We chose SIP construction because the pandemic was raging and we needed to shorted the time on site and reduce closeness of workers on the site.
SIP wall thickness: 4"
SIP roof thickness: 8"
Comments on labor saving, construction time, construction costs and energy savings:
SIPs were used to save time and labor and help us meet our net zero energy goals. It was excellent to have Premier send a carpenter to help us with the panels on the first two homes. The roof system worked especially well. A local contractor brought his fork lift over and in one day we had the roof on one of the houses.
