Completed in fall 2011, the 35,000 sq. ft. Health and Wellness Center is a major addition to the college campus, located on the high plains of southeastern Montana.

Architectural firm BNIM Architects designed the 35,000 sq. ft. building to meet LEED Platinum standards with the aid of structural insulated panels from Premier SIPs. SIPs helped meet several key design challenges, such as reaching the rigorous LEED Platinum energy efficiency standards in a cold Montana climate where temperatures average 4 degrees F in the winter months.

Complicating the design was the building’s sizable gymnasium that required tall walls and large roof spans. Jumbo 8-foot by 24-foot SIPs helped limit the number of structural supports and allowed builders to enclose space quickly—the article estimates that SIPs shaved 15 to 20 percent off the construction schedule.
