Describe the end use of the building:
This multi-purpose accessory building creates a fun and functional space. It will be used as a sport court and ice skating warming house. Although the main function is a recreational facility, it also has a lounge/den space to entertain guests during gatherings.
How did SIP construction help you get this job?
SIPs were considered because of their strength and the energy efficiency they provide. Frontier Structures educated the owners about the benefits of using SIPs and everyone decided this was the only way to build it.
SIP wall thickness and core material: 6-1/2" Extreme wall panels
SIP roof thickness and core material: 12-1/4" Extreme roof panels
Describe the benefits of using SIPs on this project. Did SIPs help save time, labor, construction costs, or energy?
SIPs helped save time and labor. The shell of the building was erected in 5 days. SIPs are also saving on energy costs for this building. Since it is not used all day everyday, yet stays heated all the time, utilizing a product that conserves energy on a day to day basis costing next to nothing to heat is extremely beneficial. Using SIPs for the walls and the roof created a stronger, tighter envelope.
Describe any innovative design elements or structural engineering involved:
The beams were tied into the dormers to create the structural components needed, yet left a beautiful aesthetic finish that was not originally planned.
Blower door test results (ACH50): 1.25
Describe the HVAC system used on the project:
Electric boiler with in floor radiant heat. Off peak heat.
