North Star Camp needed a meeting and dining hall for their church camp near Brainerd, MN, They looked to Enercept who has produced SIP roofs for many new cabins on the site. Other considerations for the project included speed of assembly and the long term energy savings. Faced with a mid-winter build using solid timber trusses and jumbo 8' x 24' SIP panels, the crew was able to achieve a weather-tight enclosure quickly with minimal weather related exposure. SIP panels are set over 12' on center, solid Eastern White Pine Timbers. SIPs were also used over conventional trusses to allow for a conditioned attic space above the kitchen for mechanicals. The orientation of the lodge takes advantage of passive solar gain and the timbers used were harvested from standing dead trees.
