How did SIP construction help you get this job?
The homeowners were deeply concerned with health and durability. Building an airtight high performance envelope with SIP panels really resonated with them from the beginning of the sales process.

SIP wall thickness:
R26 SIP wall
6.5 in panel with 5 in of EPS foam

Benefits of using SIPs on this project. Did SIPs help save time, labor, construction costs, or energy?
Utilizing SIP allowed for a quicker and more efficient framing process that saved us time and money on the project.

Innovative design elements or structural engineering involved:
The home has a variety of floor and ceiling levels. The finished level above the garage sits below the level of the rest of the second floor. Using SIP allowed us to do continuous framing from the bottom plate to the heel of the roof truss regardless of the ceiling heights. We also used SIP to insulate steel framing elements by wrapping the steel support with SIPs.

HERS Index: 33
Blower door test results: 591.7 CFM of Leakage, equivalent to a 71.2 Square Inch Hole or 0.89 Air Changes per Hour
Energy use intensity in kBtu/ft2: 11.64

HVAC:
We installed a high efficiency multi-stage forced air furnace with outdoor condenser for cooling for the entire home (lower level, main level, and second floor). Additionally we installed a Zehnder ERV with dedicated duct work supply and return. The Zehnder has enhanced filtration for better indoor air quality.

Additional energy-saving materials used in the building envelope:
EPS foam was used to insulate foundation slab 4.2 R/in
Dense pack cellulose in the furring wall
Window U-value .15

Additional energy-efficient products or design features:
Heat pump hot water heater
Energy Star appliances
LED lighting

Additional sustainable materials or design features:
Water based monocoat finish on hard wood floors
Water based low VOC paint used in all areas

Additional comments:
We used interior 2x4 framing walls inside of SIP panels to allow rough in for all trades without disturbing continuous SIP wall exterior.
