How did SIP construction help you get this job?
We wanted to build our forever home and wanted it to be as energy efficient as possible, and last for years.
SIP benefits for this job:
Saved labor costs on building exterior walls. Because we did most of the framing during the winter, we did not have to worry about what type of insulation to use and if it would be adequate.
SIP wall thickness and core material: 6-1/2" (5-5/8" EPS Core)
SIP roof thickness and core material: n/a
HERS: -16
ACH50: 0.88
kBtu/ft2: 111.3
HVAC system used on the project:
Forced air propane furnace-96 AFUE with an air to air exchanger ERV-91CFM / Air Conditioner-13 SEER.
Describe any innovative design elements or structural engineering involved:
We left the floor out of one section of the house so that we could have a 2 story gym in the basement. We also tore down an old barn an used the reclaimed lumber as accents throughout the house.
Describe any other energy-saving materials used in the building envelope other than SIPs. List U-values of windows used and the U or R-value of any insulation materials:
Windows: U-Value 0.29, SHGC 0.29
Please list any energy-efficient products or design features, such as lighting, hot water heating, appliances, passive solar:
LED Lighting / Electric Water Heater 0.92 Energy Factor
Please list any sustainable materials or design features not listed above, such as recycled materials, low-VOC finishes, landscaping, etc.:
Low-VOC Paint / Attic Insulation R-50 Blow-in Cellulose
