Hettinger, North DakotaThe West River Veterinary Clinic (WRVC) is a state-of-the-art veterinary clinic, animal hospital and retail center in the Southwestern North Dakota agricultural community of Hettinger. Having outgrown their existing facility, the owners were determined to build new, and to build as energy efficient as possible with a goal of long-term value. The entire envelope is constructed with SIPs.

The SIPs installation went quickly considering the number of design details; the building was holding heat well with two temporary electrical units so finish work could be completed over the Winter.

SIPs saved time so reduced the amount of labor to erect Walls 5 guys had walls erected in roughly 30 hours Roof 5 guys had roof placed in roughly 20 hours SIP construction also helped with very low material waste on job site.

The post and beam construction married up well with SIPs, especially in the high vaulted ceiling areas. SIPs were also a benefit by enclosing the Timber Beam structure more quickly, thus limiting the exposure of the timbers to the weather.

Using SIPs reduced construction time. The exterior walls were framed, sheathed and insulated in four days with only four men.

Timber frames were enclosed more quickly both protecting the timbers and saving labor costs. Olivier Barn was designed to create intimate performance space. The pitched roof creates an elevated, ethereal sound. The timber frames were designed for a true rustic impression.

We proposed to offer an energy efficient, affordable, beautiful home using a modern design with high ceilings (12 ft in the main living area and 10 ft in the bedrooms). Using a Miami Dade approved MGO SIP provide a unique advantage to this job due to its hurricane resistance rating.

SIPs met the criteria of quality, energy efficiency, and value that were the pillars of the project's foals from the onset. Recommending SIPs was a no brainer as a result, and have proven to be a great fit and example to the surrounding community.

SIPS were used for the end walls of the 48 foot long x 27 foot wide Great Room, which eliminated two of the large timber frame bents typically used on this type of hybrid timber frame.

Built with NO RIDGE BEAMS There was not another product that could structurally work with this design and give them the opportunity to be a net zero home. The contractor said they don't know how they would have figured all the compound angles in the home without SIPs.

The small home was built to the maximum length, width, and height of the lot allowances in accordance to the subdivision's restriction. The rigidity of the SIPs walls allowed us to cantilever over the front of the house and contributed to the ability of the architectural design elements.

SIPs saved time, panels allowed them to get that open ceiling area and maintain a well insulated ceiling. Ease of installation by using jumbo panes, obtain lower energy costs, and save labor. Also the STC rating were important.

Project was located on a beach with grandfathered setbacks. If house tore down, would have to build a smaller house to comply with the new setbacks. The Innova MGO Retro SIP panel allowed the existing stucco to be removed and the insulated MGO Retro Panel was
fasten directly to the existing walls.
