The building was designed as a house for exhibition / competition in Irvine, California at the US Department of Energy Solar Decathlon, and then afterward rebuilt in Buffalo New York. This Energy + Education Center was then installed on the South Campus at the University At Buffalo.
This house was designed for the high performance building competition to which the house had to be shipped. SIP's offered the best R-Value and Air tightness, while providing the structure capacity needed for transportation over a long journey. Saved on construction time and the benefit of reduced construction waste.
Strength of the SIPs to withstand the coast to coast journey of a fully assembled unit to the competition. Reduced Energy loads for the project. Designed a framed raised floor system to accommodate the mechanical runs. Students designed a ventilation system into the SIP's walls. Finished second place in the 2015 U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon 2015. LEED application to be completed for permanent installation.
