Bill Chaleff has been designing sustainable architecture in the Hamptons since 1985, designing his first solar home in 1975.  Establishing a firm belief in the importance of designing buildings in an environmentally responsive way long before it became popular to practice “Green” Architecture. The firm has built over 300 energy efficient homes employing concepts such as true passive solar design, state-of-the-art construction methods and materials and integrated thermal system engineering.  

Bill has developed a unique system of air-floor construction which he has incorporated into over 200 buildings.  He has also been designing with SIPs (Structural Insulated Panels) since 1986.

Chris Fennell, COO at Institute for Building Technology and Safety, has more than twenty-five years of domestic and international market research, management consulting, and engineering experience.

BuildingInsight LLC specializes in new product and service commercialization, branding and communications research, and energy and sustainability strategy for product manufacturers, service providers, membership organizations, and public-sector clients. BuildingInsight has facilitated hundreds of focus groups, industry roundtables, and client meetings and has developed a state-of-the-art Internet-based survey platform for quantitative studies including conjoint analysis-based pricing research.

Prior to founding BuildingInsight, he spent nearly nine years at the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Research Center as Vice-President of Marketing and Division Director for Market Research and Energy Programs. While there, he managed more than 100 research projects for public- and private-sector clients. He was the NAHBRC Zero Energy Home Program and Building America Program team leader for the US Department of Energy.

Craig Savage is Co-President of Building Media Inc.  Craig helped found BMI in 2000, bringing with him over 25 years of multi-faceted experience in the construction and construction publishing/event business. Craig ran his own general contracting business, Savage Company, developing an expertise in computer science as it related to construction management – which eventually led him into the roles of editor, author, and industry speaker. In addition to editing his own construction newsletters in the late ‘80s and ‘90s, Craig edited and wrote for Journal of Light Construction magazine (JLC), and rose to vice president of sales, marketing, and director of JLCLIVE events in 2000.  In addition, Craig authored four books on carpentry, contracts, and construction software, and in 2000 became the business development director at Bob Vila.com.  Today, Craig devotes his time between business development, strategic sales and marketing, and “future proofing” BMI.

Focus and Current Research: Insurance ratemaking and loss reserving, catastrophic risk, decision making under risk and uncertainty, insurance regulation, micro-insurance, and predictive modeling

Education: Ph.D., University of Georgia, Agricultural & Applied Economics, 2014; M.S., University of Georgia, Statistics, 2013; M.A., University of Toledo, Economics, 2007; Ingénieur Agronome, Université de Dschang, Cameroon, 2003.

Honors, Achievements, and Affiliations:
Dr. Awondo obtained his Ph.D. in Applied Economics and an M.S. in Statistics from The University of Georgia. His Ph.D. dissertation investigated new methods in designing insurance contracts using shrinkage estimators and informational insurance complementarities. He showed that efficient and actuarially sound premiums could be realized using these approaches. His M.S. combined a spatial simulation-based ratemaking with an economic decision model under risk to investigate market gaps in area-level and unit-level Crop insurance. He is the recipient of The University of Georgia AAE outstanding Ph.D. student award in 2014 and Cameroon Ministry of Higher education best student award in 2001. His research has been published in Agricultural Economics and Marine Resource Economics with several under review. Prior to joining the center, he served as Post-Doctoral Research Associate at the University of Georgia, Tifton Campus and a Research Economist with RTI International in RTP North Carolina. He also served as Programs Support Officer for DED/COMINSUD in Cameroon where he helped design, implement, and evaluate several economic development projects.
