A Durable and Efficient Agronomic Hub for Pro Cooperative
This project involved the construction of a multi-functional facility to house all agronomy operations for Pro Cooperative, including a service shop, liquid fertilizer storage, a seed warehouse, a 24-hour load bay, and office space.
Faced with a tight deadline to meet the spring application season, the decision to utilize SIPs construction proved crucial. SIPs allowed for rapid construction even during the challenging winter months. Furthermore, the pre-finished FRP panels significantly accelerated the project timeline, enabling pipe fitters and automation specialists to commence their work concurrently with the building's erection. This expedited construction was essential to ensure the liquid fertilizer portion of the project was operational in time for the critical spring application season.
Building Specifications:
- SIPs: 8 7/8" EPS foam core for exceptional insulation and structural integrity.
- Clear Span: 88' and 100' wide clear spans achieved using a 4' on-center wood truss system with an interior division wall to meet shear design requirements.
- HVAC:
- Warehouse/Shop: Natural gas radiant tube heaters for efficient and effective space heating.
- Office: High-efficiency natural gas forced air furnace (94% efficiency) for comfortable office environments.
- Windows & Doors:
- High-performance Gerkin vinyl windows with a U-value of 0.30.
- Plyco 92 Series insulated steel entry doors with thermal breaks for superior energy efficiency.
- Insulation:
- Attic: R-50 cellulose insulation for optimal energy performance.
- Other Features:
- LED lighting for energy-efficient illumination.
- Low-VOC paint for improved indoor air quality.
Building on Past Success:
Pro Cooperative has a strong history of successful SIP construction projects, including a previous Energy Panel Structures SIP building at another location. The proven performance and durability of this existing structure, which withstands the harsh environment associated with handling farm chemicals, fertilizers, and treated seeds, further reinforced the decision to utilize SIPs for this new facility.
This project demonstrates the significant advantages of SIPs construction in achieving rapid construction timelines, enhancing energy efficiency, and creating a durable and reliable facility for critical agricultural operations.
