How did SIP construction help you get this job?
The homeowners contacted Erskin Construction because I am a Registered Master Builder Through SIPA. they were looking for an air tight, energy efficient, modern home.
SIP wall thickness and core material:
6 1/2" EPS foam
SIP roof thickness and core material:
12 1/4" EPS foam
Describe the benefits of using SIPs on this project. Did SIPs help save time, labor, construction costs, or energy?
I used SIP frost panels for this slab on grade home; therefore, the entire envelope was created with SIP's and EPS foam. The frost panels allowed me to move forward very quickly with construction since I didn't have to wait for any concrete to be poured and cured. All the exterior walls and roof were also SIP's for not only the house and attached garage; but, I did an all SIP detached shop building for the homeowners to live in while I finished the house. The home and garage were completely dried-in in less than two weeks once the concrete floor was poured. This allowed for the mechanical contractors to start and finish sooner. The home sits on a bluff overlooking a massive grassland and in the distance, the Black Hills; while this is absolutely beautiful, it is also very windy. Because of the tight construction with SIP's, the homeowners are extremely happy with the draft free home and are amazed by how quiet it is..
Describe any innovative design elements or structural engineering involved:
SIP's allowed for a large open great room with tall vaulted ceilings
Blower door test results (ACH50) (required only for High Performance Category and recommended for residential projects):
Describe the HVAC system used on the project:
