The clients were interested in energy efficiency and durability. After comparing stick built vs SIP it we found SIP to be the more economical & efficiency method and our clients agreed.

A Comfortable & Sustainable Home Built with SIPs

This project exemplifies the power of sustainable building practices. The clients, prioritizing energy efficiency and durability, chose SIPs construction over traditional stick framing. This decision proved to be both economical and environmentally sound.

The Benefits of SIPs:

SIPs dramatically improved the project's timeline and efficiency. Construction proceeded swiftly due to the panels' pre-insulated nature, minimizing on-site delays and significantly reducing waste. The dry-in phase was remarkably fast, leading to substantial savings on construction time and costs. Moreover, the exceptional sound insulation provided by SIPs creates a remarkably quiet living environment.

Design Highlights:

The house features a striking vaulted clear story, flooding the interior with natural light and maximizing passive solar gain. A combination of exposed steel "I" beams and glue-lam beams adds a touch of industrial elegance while supporting the unique roofline. Covered outdoor spaces, supported by a similar blend of steel and glue-lam, extend the living area seamlessly into the surrounding landscape.

Energy Efficiency:

  • High-Performance Envelope: SIPs form the foundation of the home's energy efficiency.
  • Efficient HVAC: A Fujitsu air-source heat pump provides zoned heating and cooling, minimizing energy consumption.
  • Premium Windows & Doors: Triple-glazed windows and doors, including high-quality Kolbe units, significantly reduce heat loss and gain.
  • Sustainable Materials:
    • Locally sourced and crafted components, such as custom doors, windows, and cabinetry, support local economies and reduce the project's carbon footprint.
    • Renewable materials like domestic maple flooring and recycled steel siding minimize environmental impact.
    • Low-VOC paints and finishes contribute to healthier indoor air quality.

Client Satisfaction:

The homeowners consistently praise the home's exceptional comfort. They rarely need to use their heating or cooling systems, and the house remains consistently comfortable throughout the year, free from cold spots – even around the large glazed areas.

This project serves as a testament to the effectiveness of SIPs construction in creating energy-efficient, durable, and comfortable homes. We are grateful for the opportunity to work with Premier SIPs and their team, particularly Mark Yerbic and Becky Susan, who provided invaluable support throughout the project.
