Describe the end use of the building:
Single family residence

How did SIP construction help you get this job?
Our clients had researched SIPs and was familiar with the different options.  They opted to choose the high-performance construction for best value.

SIP wall thickness and core material:
6.5” with Extreme Panel quality product

SIP roof thickness and core material:
12.25” with Extreme Panel quality product

Describe the benefits of using SIPs on this project. Did SIPs help save time, labor, construction costs, or energy?
The project site was tight and tree covered.  The assembly of the SIPs product was best for limited crane access. The erection of the product took place in Winter so the faster the installation process the better.

Describe any innovative design elements or structural engineering involved:
The project started with the removal of an old small bungalow home built in the 1940s.  We provided the new foundation using a plastic “form-a-drain” product to serve a dual purpose. Footing form, drain tile, and the recycled plastic forms also serve as the drain tile on both sides of the footing.  All ICF exterior wall penetrations were sealed with manufactured flexible wall units and sealed to the wall.  The foundations, exterior grade was protected with ground breaker protection panel.  The entire house shell was sealed in a Prosoco spray wrap MVP weatherization seal.

Please list any certifications the project received, such as ENERGY STAR, LEED, National Green Building Standard, WELL, Passive House, Green Globes or local green building programs. Only list certifications that are completed:
The owners salvaged and reused several appliances.  Broadview is a member of the Energy Star, WaterSense and SIPA but we did not apply since the owners reused existing appliances.

HERS Index (required only for High Performance Category and recommended for residential projects;
See attached report by Jonson Environmental, Chris Johnson (605-940-0759)

Blower door test results (ACH50) (required only for High Performance Category and recommended for residential projects):
See attached report by Donald Jahnke (507-920-6663)

Describe the HVAC system used on the project.
Clients did not want forced air heating, so the entire home has in-floor heating including the basement.  The home is being air conditioned with heat pumps and Panasonic fan and air-exchangers

Describe any other energy-saving materials used in the building envelope other than SIPs. List U-values of windows used and the U or R-value of any insulation materials. (judged only for High Performance Category)
The entire foundation of this project has no interior concrete touching dirt, it has all been wrapped in a foundation insulation, including the footings.

Please list any energy-efficient products or design features, such as lighting, hot water heating, appliances, passive solar (judged only for High Performance Category:
The home consists of all LED lighting and high efficiency fans and heat pumps.  The home is ZERO ready construction.  The owners requested that the plumbing water suppl is provided by a multi-head manifold located in the mechanical room and supplies direct lines to all plumbing fixtures.

Were any solar panels installed on the project? If so, indicate the size of the system (judged only for High Performance Category):
The home has such a high-performance value that spending additional money and resources on alternative energy has a reduced value since the payback time is significantly extended.

Please list any sustainable materials or design features not listed above, such as recycled materials, low-VOC finishes, landscaping, etc. (judged only for High Performance Category):
The home is constructed for ZERO ready home.
The foundation is formed with “form-a-drain” product to serve as a dual purpose; footing form and drain tile, and the recycled plastic hollow forms to serve as the drain tile on both sides of the footing.

Any additional comments on the project:
The home has such a high-performance value that spending additional money and resources on alternative energy has a reduced value since the payback time is significantly extended.  The entire foundation of this project has no interior concrete touching dirt, it has all been wrapped in a foundation insulation, including the footings.
The clients proclaim to be “Minimalists” and personally enjoyed the process of researching options and evaluating products.
