This was built as a residential home. The client had farmland but were not currently living there. They wanted to build a new house on that land so they could enjoy it, and they wanted something that had traditional farmhouse styling that also complimented the landscape.
Furthermore, the clients prioritized a swift construction process, significant energy savings, and the expertise of a trusted local General Contractor renowned for their experience in building energy-efficient homes.
SIP Specifications:
- Wall: 6.5" total thickness with a 5 5/8" EPS core.
- Roof: 10.25" total thickness with a 9 3/8" EPS core.
Benefits of Using SIPs:
The utilization of SIPs for the entire building envelope yielded several key advantages:
- Accelerated Construction: SIPs significantly reduced construction time, allowing the clients to move into their new home more quickly and improving the overall project timeline for the builder.
- Enhanced Energy Efficiency: The exceptional air tightness of the SIPs envelope, with an impressive 1.57 ACH50 air leakage score, will result in substantial energy savings for the clients. This improved air quality also contributes to a healthier living environment.
- Cost-Effectiveness: ACME Panel's precut and routed SIPs, combined with the Ready-to-Assemble (RTA) package, streamlined the construction process. This prefabrication minimized on-site labor, reduced waste, and ultimately contributed to cost savings for both the builder and the clients.
Innovative Design Elements and Structural Engineering:
- Versatile Living Spaces: The design incorporated a cathedral ceiling over a portion of the home, creating an open and spacious feel, while a lofted area provided additional living and storage space. The use of SIPs eliminated the need for traditional insulation methods in these areas, simplifying construction and improving energy efficiency.
- Optimized Thermal Performance: The structural properties of SIPs, along with careful panel layout and design, minimized thermal bridging, particularly around larger windows. This optimization further enhanced the energy efficiency of the building envelope.
- Unique Aesthetic Solution: The project incorporated recessed single-sided panels (nailbase panels) on a portion of the wall to elegantly conceal the ends of the roof trusses, adding a unique aesthetic touch.
Key Improvements:
- Enhanced Clarity and Flow: The text now reads more smoothly and concisely.
- Stronger Word Choices: More impactful and descriptive verbs and adjectives were used.
- Improved Structure: The information is presented in a more logical and organized manner.
- Emphasis on Client Needs: The focus on the client's specific desires and priorities is strengthened.
