Describe the end use of the building:
Recreational rental marketed towards clients that are interested in efficient sustainable living. With off grid possibilities. Property sets along side of Cuyuna area mountain bike trail system
How did SIP construction help you get this job?
Being able to assemble a 1 step wall system allows less chance for error on site. The higher R values and the ability to change the core of the panel for higher R values, Different skins
SIP wall thickness and core material: walls 6" Neopor
SIP roof thickness and core material: roof 10" Neopor
Describe the benefits of using SIPs on this project. Did SIPs help save time, labor, construction costs, or energy?
SIPs enabled this project to save cycle time and reduced on site waste. Also we were able to use a plywood interior as a skin and interior finish. With reduced build time the home was able to be rented earlier, thus a better return on investment.
Describe any innovative design elements or structural engineering involved:
Interior plywood skins
Fully off grid, solar powered, Net Zero
Please list any certifications the project received, such as ENERGY STAR, LEED, National Green Building Standard, WELL, Passive House, Green Globes or local green building programs. Only list certifications that are completed:
Net Zero
Blower door test results: 2.00 ACH50
Describe the HVAC system used on the project:
96% efficient combo. boiler from Westinghouse In floor heat in concrete slab
Describe any other energy-saving materials used in the building envelope other than SIPs. List U-values of windows used and the U or R-value of any insulation materials:
Anderson 100s with glass upgrades U factor 0.24
SHIG 0.21
Please list any energy-efficient products or design features, such as lighting, hot water heating, appliances, passive solar:
Full LED lighting through out 96% condensing combo boiler
AC via 23 SEER mini-split with heat pump
Were any solar panels installed on the project? If so, indicate the size of the system:
Yes, 15.
310 WATT REC panels in ground mount
Please list any sustainable materials or design features not listed above, such as recycled materials, low-VOC finishes, landscaping, etc.:
Plywood interior walls, no painting, where painted Low VOC Concrete slab with in-floor hot water heat.
Any additional comments on the project:
This project is nestled in the woods of Northern MN with full southern exposure allowing for passive solar heating also. with concrete floors they are able to heat the mass, as they say, for more efficiency.
