Describe the end use of the building:
Carrington View Building A is one of three buildings in this apartment complex in West Kelowna, British Columbia. This building has 64 rentals units (47 2-bedroom and 17 1-bedroom) that range in size from 614 sq. ft. to 913 sq. ft.

How did SIP construction help you get this job?
Carrington View Building A was developed as a net-zero ready building and targets the top step of the BC Energy Step Code. The building incorporates a SIP wall system for improved waste management as well as zero-carbon mechanical systems and on-site solar power generation.

SIP wall thickness and core material: 8¼" with Neopor EPS core

Describe the benefits of using SIPs on this project. Did SIPs help save time, labor, construction costs, or energy? Incorporating SIPs into this building project was an integral part of creating a tight building envelope which is necessary in a net-zero ready building. SIPs also decreased the amount of waste created on the job site.

Describe any innovative design elements or structural engineering involved:
Every design element of this building was first considered through the prism of "how does it help this project meet the target of net-zero ready?" Only after the team determined the element's usefulness in meeting the project's target was it implemented. That is how design elements like under slab insulation, high efficiency lighting, and the particular windows were selected.

Carrington View Building A includes: high efficiency interior lighting, heat pump hot water tanks with a 3.42 COP (coefficient of performance), heat pump heating for corridors instead of electric resistance heat, and high efficiency extended range air-source heat pumps for unit conditioning.

Were any solar panels installed on the project? If so, indicate the size of the system:
Yes. The solar array covers the roof of Carrington View Building A. The array size is 99 kWP and will produce 102.7 MWh/year. This production level is enough power to heat, light, and cool the building's common areas.


Please list any sustainable materials or design features not listed above, such as recycled materials, low-VOC finishes, landscaping, etc.:Highstreet Ventures took a holistic building approach to Carrington View Building A. This approach covered everything from low-VOC paints to the sourcing of wood and building materials. It also included the creation of an on-site education program so the trades constructing the building would recognize how their work plays a key part in the measurable aspects of the building's performance.
