How did SIP construction help you get this job?
Client needed additional space for their growing family, and was looking for an affordable alternative to remodeling their current home or moving. The space had to be flexible enough to serve as overflow space for the family, a full-time home for extended family, or potentially a rental property.
Which meant it had to be cozy, comfortable, and energy efficient. SIPs panels helped us create a dwelling that met all their needs.

SIP wall thickness and core material: 4.5”, expanded polystyrene
SIP roof thickness and core material: 8.25”, expanded polystyrene
Describe the benefits of using SIPs on this project. Did SIPs help save time, labor, construction costs, or energy?
By utilizing SIPs panels, we were able to construct a very energy efficient DADU, perfect for our cold, wet Seattle winters.

Describe any innovative design elements or structural engineering involved:
We used a pier and beam foundation, which required less concrete, and minimal disruption to the existing yard.

Please list any certifications the project received, such as ENERGY STAR, LEED, National Green Building Standard, WELL, Passive House, Green Globes or local green building programs:
Project received 4 star Built Green certification (www.builtgreen.net).

Bath Fan - PANASONIC FV-0510VSL1 50-80-100 CFM. Cadet heater.

Describe any other energy-saving materials used in the building envelope other than SIPs. List U-values of windows used and the U or R-value of any insulation materials:
Windows U=0.28

Please list any energy-efficient products or design features, such as lighting, hot water heating, appliances, passive solar:
ERV - Energy Recovery Ventilator was installed, as well as Energy Star LED lighting and Energy Star appliances.

Please list any sustainable materials or design features not listed above, such as recycled materials, low-VOC finishes, landscaping, etc.:
