More construction is underway in Westside Las Vegas as crews break ground on the third phase of the Sarann Knight affordable housing development. Nonprofit developer Community Development Programs Center of Nevada (CDPCN) began construction in 2009 with a four-story, 82-unit building aimed at providing healthy and energy-efficient housing for low income families.
Building with structural insulated panels (SIPs) from Premier SIPs allowed crews to frame the entire 126,687 sq. ft. building in just 80 days. And along with other energy-efficiency measures like low-e windows and tankless hot water heaters, CDPCN reduced energy use by a staggering 60 percent. The project won a SIPA Building Excellence Award for Multifamily Housing and was featured in Environmental Design + Construction magazine.
The recently completed second phase of the development consists of seven single story buildings. Construction is in progress on the third and final phase—a 39-unit, three-story building. Both phases are targeted at senior living and constructed with SIPs.
