The Olivier Barn at Tippet Rise is a visitors' center, concert hall, art center and state of the art screening room.  The Olivier Barn was designed to achieve LEED Platinum certification, SIPs were used to enclose the timber frame barn to achieve optimal energy efficiency

SIP wall thickness and core material: 6" and 8" EPS panel combination
SIP roof thickness and core material: 10" EPS

Timber frames were enclosed more quickly both protecting the timbers and saving labor costs.  Oliviier Barn was designed to create intimate performance space. The pitched roof creates an elevated, ethereal sound. The timber frames were designed for a true rustic impression. The orientation to the mountains and natural surrounding create an immersive experience in the art, music and natural beauty of Tippet Rise.

HVAC system used on the project: Ground source heat pump.  Glazings are all triple-glass with Sun Defense 366 and Krypton specs; U-factor .19, SHGC .17, VLT% 39, CR 74

Water use is minimized by collecting, naturally purifying and re-using rain and snow melt for irrigation.  Solar Canopy: 30% Solar Thermal, 70% Solar Photvoltaics, 7,000 sqft total area. Provides charging station for electric vehicles, Solar Thermal Storage Tank provides electrical power to the building.  Waste from sinks, showers and toilets is digested naturally and returned tot he ground replenish ground water supplies. Irrigation pumps used reclaimed water for native grasses, shrubs and trees, providing habitat for animal and birds.  The Olivier Barn was designed with the highest standards of sustainability for low carbon emission and net-zero energy consumption.

Electric vehicles and golf carts charged with energy from a solar array transport visitors and staff throughout the ranch. Active land preservation and habitat restoration efforts benefit the flora, fauna and creeks of the ranch.

“As is the location and feel of the Tippet Rise Arts Centre at Fishtail, Montana. Here, Cathy (a painter) and Peter (musician and photographer) Halstead have been shaping a quietly ambitious Land Art project across working farmland centred on a new music room designed in the guise of an age-old barn by Alban Bassuet and Laura Viklund. Laced through with the latest in modern acoustic technologies, with the help of Arup engineers, the building uses minimal energy: it is up to date and yet it belongs here as much as the nearby Beartooth Mountains.”
