How do SIPs really react in a Fire? (Proven Fire Performance)
Manufacturers across North America have proven the fire performance of SIP systems through some of the most extensive fire assembly testing in the construction Industry. The results of this destructive testing allow documentation of SIP performance under rigorous test standards.

Why do SIP Buildings require Mechanical Ventilation? (Actually increase comfort and livability)
As we have insulated and sealed homes to achieve greater levels of comfort and energy independence, Structural Insulated Panels have proven themselves to be the most cost effective and stable method of construction. Although this simplified process of super-insulation has shown positive impacts on the quality, comfort and energy savings of structures, it also created the need for controlled ventilation.

SIPs Outperform Stick & Batt (Oak Ridge National Labs R-Value Test)
When someone says "R-value", what they're really talking about is resistance to heat flow in a given medium, such as fiberglass insulation -the higher the number, the greater the resistance.

Press reports have been published concerning moisture damage to SIP (structural insulated panels) roofs on dwellings in Juneau, Alaska. SIPA has investigated this issue in cooperation with industry leading building scientists. This document has been prepared by SIPA to report on the findings related to the field installation of SIPs in Juneau, Alaska.

Do SIPs contain Formaldehyde? (Technically yes, realistically no)
The answer to this question is technically yes, realistically no. This is the case because the amount of formaldehyde emitted by the oriented strand board (OSB) used in SIPs is less than 0.1 PPM (parts per million).

Whole Wall R-Value Report (PDF)
Scientists at Oak Ridge National Laboratory report their findings from comparative testing between structural insulated panels and other wood frame wall assemblies.  The tests measure the thermal resistance of the entire wall, including structural framing members.
