Eco House Exhibit Showcases SIPs at Minnesota State Fair
St. Paul, Minn. – Visitors to the Minnesota State Fair can experience a cutting edge, environmentally responsible demonstration home built with structural insulated panels at the Eco Experience exhibit, August 24th through September 4th.
The exhibit, presented by the Minnesota State Fair and the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA), offers fairgoers an interactive experience of green building, renewable energy, organic farming and recycling.
At the center of the Eco Experience is the 900 sq. ft. Eco House, an eco friendly, “green” home built with energy efficient structural insulated panels (SIPs).
“We recognize that housing and buildings use lots of energy and lots of natural resources and we want to make sure we feature more efficient options in our exhibit,” said Jeff Ledermann, MCPA Team Leader for the Eco Experience.
The Eco House was constructed by St. Francis, Minn. based Extreme SIP Team, consisting of Panelworks Plus, Panel Setters Plus, and Northwoods Custom Homes.
“The SIP Eco House explains the green benefits of building with SIPs by demonstrating products from renewable resources, decreased jobsite waste, and how SIPs save energy,” said Curtis L. Stendel, President of Panelworks Plus.
This unique SIP structure features 4” floor panels, 6” wall panels, and 12” roof panels, that save energy and reduce construction and resource waste. Much of the structure is left unfinished so that viewers can see the progression of the construction.
“Because of the way the the SIP Eco House is constructed, visitors with no prior knowledge of SIPs will learn both basic and advanced applications of panels used in floor, wall and roof construction,” said Stendel. “Cut away sections show corner assemblies, spline joints, and wire chases.”
In addition to the green features provided by structural insulated panels, products used for roofing, siding, floor coverings are made of either recycled or recyclable materials.
