NYSERDA Deep Energy Retrofit Underway in Albany
Crews in Albany, New York are installing new siding over retrofit insulated panels this week on a multifamily deep energy retrofit project. The project team, led by Home Innovation Research Labs, received a grant from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) to conduct building research on a cost-effective deep energy retrofit.

Attend free SIP and timber frame AIA Continuing Education courses on October 25
SIPA and the Timber Frame Business Council (TFBC) are providing back-to-back AIA Continuing Education courses on Friday, October 25, at the Dulles Expo Center in Chantilly, Virginia. Attendees will hear two unique programs: Timber Framing: An Age Old Craft Meets the Modern Era (general learning unit) and Structural Insulated Panels: What Architects Need to Know (HSW learning unit).

SIP homes shine at 2013 Solar Decathlon
On October 3, teams from 20 universities across North America and Europe will face off in the 2013 Department of Energy (DOE) Solar Decathlon in Irvine, California. To reduce home energy use and the amount of solar generation capacity required, four teams participating in this year’s competition will construct their homes using structural insulated panels (SIPs). SIPs have been a product of choice for Solar Decathlon teams dating back to the competition’s inception in 2001.

Survey shows slight decline in structural insulated panel production for 2012
A strong finish for the recovering housing market in the latter half of 2012 was not enough to keep the emerging structural insulated panel (SIP) industry in net positive growth for the year, according to a survey conducted by the Structural Insulated Panel Association (SIPA).
